Rooted in tradition while reaching toward the future, Mycelial is the electro-acoustic project of banjoist, producer, and songwriter Isaac Cantor. Built around Cantor’s distinctive combination of virtuosic live banjo, vocals, and electronic production, Mycelial moves fluidly between American roots music, global influences, house, bass music, and psychedelic dance music, creating a sound that feels equally at home on a festival stage or a late-night dance floor.
After nearly two decades of touring and recording with live bands, including the Grateful Bluegrass Boys and Dusty Green Bones Band, and performing with artists such as Bob Weir, Billy Strings, and Peter Rowan, Cantor launched Mycelial as a vehicle for pushing the banjo into entirely new territory. The project has since grown through an expanding catalog of original music and collaborations with artists including Kr3ture, Evan Fraser, Evan Hatfield, and Magdelion Moondrop.
In 2026, Mycelial has reached a new level on the live circuit, with increasingly prominent festival appearances, opening slots, club shows, and ecstatic dances across the West Coast, including the Oregon Country Fair and Hang Time Festival. Recent releases such as the Rising Moon EP and “Be Free” reflect an increasingly dance-forward sound while retaining the organic musicianship and improvisational spirit at the project’s core.
Mycelial bridges the ancient and the futuristic, transforming banjo, voice, and electronic production into a live experience built for movement, improvisation, and connection.
